Frequently Asked Questions

One module (half a level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), e.g., A1.1) takes 6 weeks to complete. To get from A1 to B1 you need 6 modules. Each week includes 10 hours of group online classes and 2-3 hours of self-study with the app. The schedule for the online classes is fixed (mornings, afternoons or evenings), but you decide yourself when you complete the self-study assignments.
A stable internet connection, a computer or smartphone, and a comittment to learn for at least 2 hours per day + self-study time! English fluency is not a prerequisite, however a basic understanding of English is needed to navigate the learning platform and Babbel app. At this time, our courses are only available for students who currently live in Germany and Austria.
Our classes are designed to help you reach the B1 language level and prepare for the B1 certification exam. However, they are currently not accredited, BAMF-funded integration courses. If your situation requires you to attend an integration course that is accredited by the BAMF, (for example, for your visa, residence permit, or integration process), our courses may not fulfill that requirement. If you are only required to pass the B1 exam and want to attend Babbel’s course as a self-payer, the course might be suited for your needs. To find accredited courses by other language schools, please visit the BAMF website (Federal Office for Migration and Refugees) for more information.
The first module costs €230. Get a 25% discount on every additional module after your first. If you continue to study and complete the course until B1.2 (or at least 2 consecutive modules up to, and including B1.2), you will receive 50% off your last module and an additional 25% payback on the total cost of all modules. This means that if you complete all 6 modules - the final cost is only €115 per module! Visit the pricing page for further details.
For dedicated learners who have studied with us for 3 or more modules, leading up to and including B1.2, you are eligible for one free B1 certification exam. Learners are responsible for scheduling the exam, paying the exam fee upfront, and transportation to and from the exam. Once you have completed your exam, send us proof of completion and we will reimburse you for the amount of the exam fee. Cost of transportation is the responsibility of the learner.
